Signature techniques
Your ninja can create techniques of their own: pick an element, a shape, a few modifiers and a look, give it a name, and develop it at a training spot. Enemy leaders, jōnin and rivals carry signatures of their own too.
Design techniques of your own from shapes, modifiers and motifs, and develop them at a training spot. One signature for genin and chūnin, two for jōnin, three for leaders. Scrolls teach them; the Sharingan can't copy them.
How a ninja gets one
- On purpose: select a ninja and press Design a signature technique. The design editor opens with every part your village has earned.
- Inspired: missions, beating a rival, a new fame tier, opening an old sealed cache, every 20 training sessions, and (with an NFRP storyteller) festivals, wandering masters and quiet moments of insight can inspire a ninja. They get three ideas within their rank. Press Inspired to pick one, keep them for later, or let them go.
- Refining an idea keeps its shape. You may add one modifier and drop one before you start.
- Limits: genin and chūnin may own one signature, jōnin two, village leaders three.
A B-rank mission gave Aiko ideas for a technique of her own. Pick one to refine, keep them for later, or let them go.
The three ideas wait under Aiko's Inspired button. Select her and press it to come back to them.
The inspiration ends. A new one can come from the next mission, duel, fame tier or every 20 training sessions.
Element: lightning
Shape
Modifiers (change one)
Motif: hounds
Rank B
A lance of lightning shaped like a running hound that pierces armour. Damage, range, chakra and cooldown show here and change as you pick parts.
Develops in about 10 hours of work at a training spot (twice as long without an inspiration).
Shape
Modifiers (up to 2)
Motif: hounds
Lightning shows 16 motifs. The tiles scroll; a hovered or chosen tile plays its painted look, locked ones are greyed with how to earn them.
Rank C (needs ninjutsu 6, has 7)
Bullet · lightning, empowered: damage, range, chakra and cooldown show here and change as you pick parts.
Look: lightning hound flight
Develops in about 20 hours of practice: a design made on purpose takes twice as long as an inspired idea. Locked parts are earned from missions, duels, fame and training; hover one in game to see how. More modifiers come with rank (3 at jōnin, 4 as village leader).
Aiko now practises Raiton: Inazuma no Kiba at a training spot. Her Developing button shows the progress; when it is done, the technique joins her tree.

Hover a part in game for what it does; locked parts say how to earn them.
Only techniques your colony has seen used appear here. They are also in the Bingo Book.
The list of signature techniques that would look better with their own painted art is saved in the mod's _requests folder, with a plain picture brief for each.
Developing
- Developing is research-like work at a training spot, one hour at a time. The ninja's Developing button shows the progress.
- Time for an inspired idea: D 4 hours, C 6, B 10, A 16, S 24. A design made from scratch takes twice as long.
- A-rank work has an 8% chance per hour to backfire, S-rank 15%. A backfire burns or shocks a hand or arm a little; the progress is kept.
- The rank needs ninjutsu: D 2, C 6, B 10, A 14, S 18. Modifiers: two, plus one for jōnin and one more for leaders.
Parts
Every village starts with a set of shapes, modifiers and motifs. The rest are earned, and the parts window says how.
| Earned by | Some parts it opens |
|---|---|
| C-rank missions | wave, lance, barrier; quick, piercing, pinning, rooting; spiral, turtle shell |
| B-rank missions | pillars, prison, rain; stunning, numbing, paralysing; sharks, hounds, serpent, giant hands |
| A-rank missions | storm, flash step; freezing, lulling, of stealth; dragon, tiger, comet |
| S-rank missions | great beast; sun flare |
| Beating a rival | drill; wolf |
| Becoming Feared | rallying aura, terror genjutsu; terrifying, dreadful; feathers, crane |
| Becoming Legendary | of heroism; crescent moon |
| Opening old seals | confusion genjutsu, vortex; searing, shocking, venomous; petals, bones, spider web, mirror shards |
| Training | dash strike; lingering; lotus |
- Shapes (24) decide what the technique does: a bullet, a breath, a field, a bind, a barrier, a mending, a curse and more.
- Modifiers (34) tune it: stronger, farther, wider, cheaper, and effects such as stunning, freezing, chakra-sealing or of swiftness.
- Motifs (22 besides plain) decide its look: dragons, birds, hounds, sharks, a serpent, a crane, a wolf, a comet, a lotus, a crescent moon and more. Each is painted art that takes the element's colour. The design window shows them as picture tiles for the chosen element: hover a tile to see it move, and locked ones are greyed with how to earn them.
Teaching and scrolls
- The creator can write the technique on a scroll at the scribe desk. Another of your ninja who reads it starts Learning it at a training spot.
- The creator casts it a little stronger (+15%); someone who learned it from a scroll a little weaker (−15%).
- No copying. The Sharingan and any other copy effect can't take a signature technique. Only scrolls teach it.
Enemy signatures
- Village leaders always carry one, jōnin often, and a rival may come back from training with one.
- You only learn an enemy's technique once your colony sees it used. It then shows in the Known enemy techniques tab and in the Bingo Book.
- When the creator dies and nobody else knows it, the technique is gone.
Where to find them
- Signature techniques on the bottom bar: your techniques, the parts library and known enemy techniques.
- The technique tree shows only the selected ninja's signatures.
- Write art requests saves a list of signatures that would look better with their own painted art.
