Live squad missions

Squad missions (see *The living world*) can now be watched as they happen, and what your ninja can actually do decides how the trip goes.

In short

Watch a squad's trip live on a small map. What each ninja can do decides the fights, traps and finds on the road, and they come home with what happened. Missions raise your village's mission rank and bond the squad.

Following a trip

When a squad leaves, a letter offers Watch the mission. You can also open it from the Ninja world panel (Watch: … buttons) at any time while the squad is away.

The window doesn't pause the game. It shows:

  • a small map of the road in your home's landscape (forest, snow, desert, jungle or swamp colours),
  • the squad moving out to the target and back,
  • markers for everything that happened so far, and a log with the day and hour,
  • who in the squad is fine or hurt.

Buttons: Live follows the trip in game time, Replay so far plays what happened again, Mission records and Next squad.

Squad away: Hana — D-rank for Order of the Venator, back in 19 hours.

Mission rank: level 2 (8 points)  ·  missions 3, won 2  ·  relics 1/10

Squad missions: the Missions tab of the Ninja world window (its button on the bottom bar) opens Send a squad; the Squad away letter's Watch the mission (or a Watch: button in the panel) opens the live mission window; Mission records opens from the live window or the panel. A storyteller's squad request letter opens Send a squad already filled in with Choose the squad.
What decides the trip

Every squad member counts:

  • Rank and level against the mission's rank decide most fights and the objective.
  • Taijutsu, summons and genjutsu help in fights; fire users do better against beasts.
  • Sensors slip around ambushes, find more on the road and can track a hidden enemy camp.
  • Fast, sensor or sealing ninja disarm traps.
  • Medics patch up the wounded on the road (their wounds are halved).

On the road the squad may fight rogue ninja, bandits, beasts, Black Ink crews or someone from the Bingo Book (harder, but beating them pays a share of the bounty), find herbs, silver, gold, jade or steel, meet merchants, pilgrims and refugees, spot a legendary beast or a war, or find a hidden camp you can raid afterwards.

Coming home

What happened on the road is what they bring back: the wounds, the loot and bounty (they carry it home), a relic if they found one, the hidden camp on the world map, fame for the fights they won, hunger and tiredness, and practice in a couple of skills, on top of the usual mission pay, XP and goodwill.

Bonds from the road

Ninja who come home from a mission together like each other more:

  • Went on a mission together: every pair in the squad, for about 30 days. Harder ranks leave a stronger memory.
  • Fought side by side: when the squad won fights on the road; stronger after three or more.
  • Patched me up on the road: the one a medic treated on the road thinks well of that medic for about 60 days.
  • Led us into a mess: after a failed mission, or when someone came back badly hurt, some members blame the squad leader (the first ninja in the squad).
  • Comrades: two ninja who have been on three missions together become comrades, a lasting relation shown in the Social tab. Losing a comrade hurts more than losing a friend.
  • Solo missions: a ninja who comes back from a successful mission alone is proud of it for a few days.

Every mission earns your village points (more for higher ranks and successes). The rank opens harder missions: B at level 2, A at level 3, S at level 4, and makes great successes (extra pay) more likely.

Relics

Rarely, a squad finds one of ten old relics. Each gives everyone in the village a small permanent bonus, shown in the health tab as *village relics*:
